HOW COMFORTABLE ARE YOU?

I know as a fitness professional that if a client is going to make changes in their body it will require them to push past what is comfortable, past their comfort zone.

If you want to have more cardiovascular endurance you will need to run a little faster, or a little farther, or a little longer than your body currently feels comfortable doing. If you want more strength and muscle tone, you will have to lift weights that are a little heavier than you are used to, if you want more flexibility you will need to stretch your muscles in ways that may at first feel uncomfortable. Eventually the body reacts to the extra stress you put on it by getting stronger and then what used to feel uncomfortable becomes easy to do.

I am learning that the same is true in all areas of life. If you want to see changes in any area of your life you must occasionally throw yourself into the fire and go past what is comfortable for you.

Sometimes we can become so stuck in a comfort zone that we don’t allow ourselves to make the progress we say we want in our lives. But any goal that you have for yourself that you want to reach will require you to do something that you may not be comfortable doing.

Just like it helps to have a workout partner or hire a trainer to help you physically push your body past what is comfortable in order for you to see the changes you desire, it can help to have a friend or a coach to help you push yourself mentally to take the steps necessary to reach your goals and dreams.

Earlier this year I hired life coach David Essel because I had gotten stuck in my own comfort zones and needed a push to help me get unstuck.

Look at the areas of your life where you would like to make changes and make a list of potential actions you could take to start progressing toward the change you would like to see. If any of the items on the list scare you, then you know that this is one area where you need to move out of your comfort zone. Commit yourself to taking that first small step, either alone or with the help of a friend, trainer, or coach. And you will find that the more you make a habit out of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, the easier it becomes and the more confidence and joy you feel in your life. Take that first step!! You can do it!! And you will be so happy you did!!

IT IS GOOD TO FEEL GOOD....

As I continue my life and my journey of self discovery I am constantly reminded how FEELING GOOD is so IMPORTANT to your SUCCESS. FEELING GOOD about who you are and ALL THE GOOD IN YOUR LIFE now is essential to having more good thing show up in your life. The ways that can help you feel good are to SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE for all that you currently love in your life… consciously think about ALL THAT YOU APPRECIATE in your life. Make a gratitude list every morning and THINK ABOUT all that YOU LOVE, all that YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR, all that YOU ENJOY, all things that make you HAPPY. Make it a priority each day to feel good, to FOCUS ON THE THINGS AND PEOPLE YOU LOVE, to LAUGH, HAVE FUN, and ENJOY YOURSELF, as often as possible throughout your day. Look for reasons to SMILE, look for reasons to BE HAPPY. It is amazing how thinking of things to APPRECIATE in your life, looking for things that make you SMILE AND LAUGH WITH PLEASURE can change the quality of your life and increase your success and productivity as well as your minute to minute ENJOYMENT OF LIFE… and what else is there really?

"GET HAPPY"



“GET HAPPY”. Could it really be that SIMPLE? I have been on a journey of self discovery since the beginning of the year. I hired an AMAZING Life Coach, David Essel, who has helped me get past fears and resistance and get more clarity in my life. I have read over 40 different books on GOAL SETTING, SPIRITUALITY, MOTIVATION and every day continue to LOOK FOR WAYS TO MAKE POSITIVE in my life. I AM LOVING every minute of this journey and so I want to share my latest chapter with you.

I have recently discovered Esther and Jerry Hicks and The Teachings of Abraham. As you can see from the video in this blog, their teachings are about GETTING HAPPPY or getting yourself into vibrational alignment with WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE. Part of their teaching is to BECOME AWARE OF HOW YOU FEEL and make NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT YOU FEEL GOOD. Each day no matter where you are going or what you are doing and no matter who you are doing it with make it your dominant intent to LOOK FOR GOOD FEELING THINGS. Always LOOK FOR THE BEST FEELING THOUGHT in any situation in your life. Beginning before you go to bed at night set the tone by THINKING ABOUT THINGS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD when you think about them. When you awake in the morning lie in bed for a few minutes and FOCUS ON ALL THE THINGS YOU APPRECIATE in your life. And then when you get up take 15 minutes to MEDITATE and raise your vibration, after that write down all the POSITIVE ASPECTS that you can think of regarding yourself and others in your life and then go through a RAMPAGE OF APPPRECIATION for all the things you already have in your life. You can then ask yourself questions like “Wouldn’t it be nice if…. ?” There are actually 22 different processes you can do to help change the way you look at things and thus change the way you feel. Any one of them will help you FEEL BETTER AND RELEASE RESISTANCE to getting what you want in life. For the last few weeks I chose to do the bedtime appreciation, morning meditation, positive aspects, rampage of appreciation and wouldn’t it be nice if questions.

I must say that it has MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE in the way I feel day to day and moment to moment. I see how this really works because WHEN I FEEL GOOD… I DO MORE, but if I feel discouraged or fearful or doubtful it is much easier to give up. Its not that you ignore what needs changing in your life but it is easier to make those changes when YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF. When you are FOCUSED ON WHATS GOOD instead of focusing on your problems it is EASIER TO SEE THE SOLUTIONS you need

I will continue on my journey, continue learning from my Life Coach, continue reading everything related to self discovery but during the process I will have MORE FUN, be MORE PLAYFUL, find MORE TO APPRECIATE and I WILL FEEL GOOD because LIFE IS JUST BETTER when I FOCUS ON WHAT I APPRECIATE and it really does FEEL GOOD TO FEEL GOOD.

VACATION EVERY DAY

My husband and I flew down to West Palm Beach, Florida, for the Labor Day weekend and it was SO HEAVENLY with BLUE SKIES, WHITE CLOUDS, SUNSHINE, clear water that was the PERFECT temperature. We swam and PLAYED AND LAUGHED and ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT of this small piece of paradise.

When I came back home to NYC and got back into the rhythm of my life and my work and my home , I started to think how can
I carry over this FEELING OF JOY AND ELATION AND HAPPINESS into my daily life? How can I make EVERY DAY FEEL AS WONDERFUL as the days we spent on our vacation? Why is it SO EASY TO FEEL JOY when on vacation?
I think on vacation everywhere I look I see or EXPERIENCE SOMETHING THAT FEELS GOOD… blue skies, white clouds, the feeling of playing in the sparkling water, etc. But more importantly I TAKE THE TIME to look at the things that make me happy and FOCUS ON THEM AND APPPRECIATE them in that moment. Yes, I definitely have more time to relax and take in all the sights on vacation but what if I ALLOWED MYSELF to FOCUS ON WHAT FEELS GOOD every day, instead of only when I am on vacation?

What if MAINTAINING JOY really IS all about SLOWING DOWN and TAKING THE TIME TO SMELL THE FLOWERS? What if the biggest reason life seems so much better on vacation is because I am in a CONSTANT STATE OF APPRECIATION? I decided to try this at home during my normal life.

I MADE A COMMITMENT to each day MAKE FEELING GOOD A PRIORITY and to SLOW DOWN and to allow myself TO LOOK FOR AND ENJOY AND APPRECIATE things that FEEL GOOD every day. And I have to say IT HAS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the quality of my daily experiences. I still have to work and the bills still came in and there were still problems with the trains, etc. But over all when I LOOKED FOR THINGS TO FEEL GOOD about I really did have an amazing week … much MORE PLAYFUL, APPRECIATIVE, FUN AND JOYFUL.

Try it for one day, or one week and I can guarantee you, YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW MUCH JOY you can experience in a single day if you CONCIOUSLY LOOK FOR THINGS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD. You will want to do this EVERY DAY for the rest of your life.

SUE FIT’S SUCCESS FORMULA

This has been a year of PERSONAL GROWTH and SELF-DISCOVERY for me… I made a conscious decision at the beginning of the year to make some POSITIVE CHANGES in my life. I COMMITTED MYSELF to reading MOTIVATIONAL and INSPIRATIONAL books, hiring LIFE COACH (David Essel) and to working on bettering myself in some way, EVERY SINGLE DAY. I must say it has been an AMAZING JOURNEY so far and along the way I have OVERCOME MANY FEARS and NEGATIVE BELIEFS that have held me back from reaching my goals. In addition I now have many, many EXCITING NEW GOALS to reach. I started to think back to all the goals I already ACCOMPLISHED in my life, all of my ACCOMPLISHMENTS and SUCCESSES and, more specifically, to how did I reach them. What was it I did in each instance TO BE SUCCESSFUL, TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING that at the time seemed INSURMOUNTABLE? This is the formula that I came up with. In every instance when I have SUCCESSFULLY ACCOMPLISHED something in my life I HAVE FOLLOWED these 7 steps that I now call Sue Fits Success Formula.

SUE FIT’S SUCCESS FORMULA

1. DECIDE exactly what you want.
2. DETERMINE WHY do you want this.
3. WRITE IT DOWN and look at it every day, keep it top in your thoughts all the time. YOU BECOME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT.
4. DESIGN A PLAN… find a role model, some one who has already accomplished your goal and find out how did they do this. Figure out where you are today in relation to where you want to be and map out a step by step plan to get to your desired goal. See what changes you need to commit to in your life to have, do or be what you want. Each step of the way becomes a smaller goal.
5. SEE IT. BELIEVE IT. See yourself as already having accomplished the goal, how would that feel, what would that look like. Cut out pictures of what you want and look at them every day. Believe that you can do it.
6. TAKE ACTION every day. Follow your plan and take a step each day towards reaching your goal.
7. COMMIT. Commit yourself to making it happen For 30 days commit yourself to taking action every day on your plan no matter what. You may feel like this is too hard and giving up but for 30 days stay committed. For 30 days. Don’t allow yourself to quit on yourself and your desired goal. Tell yourself “I am” and “I can” declarations…. I am worthy of achieving my goal…. I am strong. I can do this… I can stay with this for 30 days If you make through the first 30 days taking action on your goal every day then it will become habit and your results will spur you on to even greater results. Of course 30 days will probably not be enough to reach your ultimate desired goal but you can determine how far you want to be in 30 days. For example, if your goal is to run 5 miles but you never ran before then for 30 days your goal might be to walk on the treadmill 5 days a week for 30 minutes and then the next month to jog for 30 minutes, etc, so that you will continuously be moving toward accomplishing your final goal of running 5 miles.

I hope this HELPS YOU to reach some of YOUR GOALS. I am putting it BACK IN ACTION to HELP ME reach my NEW GOALS.

Remember NEVER GIVE UP.. no matter what ON YOUR DREAMS. Realize that there may be times you might feel discouraged, you might feel overwhelmed, you might feel like quitting, but NEVER GIVE UP. KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE by keeping it in YOUR THOUGHTS at all times I truly BELIEVE that YOU BECOME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT. Think thoughts of SUCCESS then TAKE ACTION on them. If you PERSIST… YOU WILL SUCCEED. Be PATIENT, be PERSISTANT, be COMMITTED to doing WHATEVER IT TAKES. IT IS POSSIBLE. SEE IT, BELIEVE IT… ACHIEVE IT. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

COMMIT OR QUIT?



I LOVE this video clip because it always reminds me that I can MAKE EXCUSES or I can MAKE A COMMITMENT to make a difference in my life and the lives of others. Working on reaching goals and MAKING POSITIVE CHANGES in my life is not always easy. So many times I FEEL LIKE GIVING UP, being lazy, not doing the things that I know WILL ultimately CHANGE MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER. Sometimes it feels like all the work I do on a day-to-day basis doesn’t really do anything since I don’t always SEE THE IMMEDIATE RESULTS OF MY EFFORTS, the fruits of my labor.

As a personal trainer/group fitness instructor I know that SMALL STEPS CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE toward a client reaching their fitness goals. You cannot expect to go to the gym and workout for an hour and at the end of that hour SEE IMMEDIATE CHANGES IN YOUR BODY. But that doesn’t mean that the workout is not working. It’s just that the changes are NOT YET VISABLE. Even though you don’t see the changes day by day. IF YOU CONTINUE working out for an hour a day then at the end of 30 days YOU WILL SEE THE CHANGES that your daily action created in your body.

DAILY POSITIVE ACTION toward any goals in life – EACH STEP no matter how small – WILL make a difference and take you CLOSER TO YOUR GOALS.

DON’T QUIT…. Don’t give up…. STAY COMMITTED to taking daily action and even if you do not see results right away HAVE FAITH AND KNOW that EVERY POSITIVE ACTION you take WILL TAKE YOU CLOSER to YOUR GOAL.

CAN A QUICKIE BE ALL YOU NEED?!?!?

My husband and I usually FLY AWAY for a long weekend every three months or so. We LOVE
THE BEACH and enjoy spending time in West Palm Beach, Hilton Head, South Beach, Ft.
Lauderdale. Unfortunately this year we haven’t had the time or finances to fly away and
ENJOY THE OCEAN. But this past weekend we decided that since we were unable to get
away for 3 or 4 days but really, really missed the ocean, WHY NOT HAVE A “QUICKIE”. So,
after working all day Saturday, we got in the car and drove 30 minutes away to Long Beach,
booked an OCEANFRONT HOTEL for the night and then ENJOYED AN AMAZING DINNER by
the ocean, A WALK ALONG THE WATER before bed, and when we woke up the next morning,
we were just steps to the beach. We ENJOYED AN INCREDIBLE DAY alternating between
PLAYING IN THE OCEAN’S WAVES and lying on the beach SOAKING UP THE SUN’S
WARMTH and energy. Within 24 hours from our leaving our apartment we were back home
again, RENEWED, REFRESHED and exhausted but still ENERGIZED FROM OUR “QUICKIE”
vacation. No, it wasn’t 4 days in Florida or South Carolina but it was SO MUCH FUN and
really ALL WE NEEDED to feel like we had some time away.

This also applies to exercise. Sometimes you are not going to have THE TIME to go to THE
GYM.... but if you DO SOMETHING for 15 or 20 minutes, it can make you FEEL RENEWED,
REFRESHED AND ENERGIZED as well. Jumping jacks, pushups, situps, squats, lunges, jump
rope... are just a few of the things you can do at home that will GET THE BLOOD FLOWING
and ENERGIZE THE BODY.

Don’t let excuse of not enough time or money stop you from ENJOYING what you want to do.
Think outside of the box and FIND A WAY to do what you want ... HAVE A “QUICKIE” .. It
might just be ALL YOU NEED to make you FEEL GOOD AGAIN!!!!!

THE MOST IMPORTANT CONVERSATION!!!

I AM starting to realize that the MOST IMPORTANT conversation I have on any subject is the one that I have with MYSELF. It is the things I TELL myself about situations or people in my life that cause me JOY or PAIN. It is usually NOT actually the situation or person themselves.

I realize most arguments I have with my husband or others are NOT because of what THEY SAID OR DID but more because of what I SAY TO MYSELF ABOUT what they said or did. It is my self-talk, MY BELIEFS ABOUT WHAT THEY SAID OR DID that cause me emotional pain. Most of the time it is the way I INTERPRET what was said or done, and not what they actually said or did that causes me to OVER-REACT and take OFFENSE.

Lately, when I over-react I am LEARNING TO QUESTION MY OWN THOUGHTS, and learning to DISPUTE MY BELIEFS, to question if they really are BASED ON FACT or just my FEARS AND RESISTANCE to something I don’t want to hear or do. I am beginning to realize that JUST BECAUSE I BELIEVE something doesn’t make it true, that most of the time my beliefs are just BAD HABITS OF THOUGHT or fears and are actually FACTUALLY INCORRECT.

This is also true when I find myself MAKING EXCUSES as to why I CANNOT do something. I am learning to examine these beliefs and finding out that MOST OF THE TIME they are just excuses and sometimes when I actually DO what I think I CANNOT do it is the best way to CHANGE MY BELIEF ABOUT MYSELF AND MY ABILITIES.

KNOWING this helps me RECOGNIZE it in action in my clients and others as well. Yesterday morning my husband told me that he was planning to go to the gym at night and really push hard, do an intense cardio workout, etc. When he came home at night and I asked him how was his workout, he hesitated and then started GIVING EXCUSES, talking about WHY he didn’t do what he had INTENDED TO DO.

WHAT HAPPENED between the morning intention and the evening workout? He had a CONVERSATION WITH HIMSELF that changed his mind. He told himself he DIDN’T HAVE TIME to do his cardio, he didn’t want to get injured by doing too much, etc. HIS MIND STOPPED HIM from doing what he INTENDED TO DO.


Examine the QUALITY OF THE CONVERSATION you have with yourself. What thoughts do you think? What do you TELL YOURSELF ABOUT YOURSELF? About your ABILITIES? About what OTHERS SAY to you? When someone says or does something that makes you overreact, EXAMINE what thoughts are you TELLING YOURSELF about the situation and how are you INTERPRETING what was said or done. Look for ways to DISPUTE YOUR BELIEFS about what is making you sad or angry. LOOK FOR EVIDENCE to see how your belief MAY NOT BE TRUE and how you can LOOK AT THIS DIFFERENTLY and how you can THINK ABOUT THIS DIFFERENTLY. It might just change the QUALITY of your life as I know it IS CHANGING the QUALITY of mine.

THE MOST IMPORTANT MUSCLE!!!!

The most important muscle of the body – YOUR HEART!!

When I was growing up my family spent a week or two every year in Albany visiting my mom’s family, my grandma and grandpa, my aunts and uncles, my cousins. I LOVED my time in the “country” playing with my cousins and getting into all sorts of adventures that a child can get into.

I went back to Albany this weekend for a family reunion. It’s been 5 years since the last time I had gone up and probably 10, 15 and 20 years since the last time I saw some of my relatives.

Well…. Let me tell you… Seeing all my aunts and uncles and cousins brought back all the memories of love shared so many summers ago and I felt so much LOVE and JOY seeing them again. Time and distance CANNOT DIMINISH THE LOVE that is etched in the HEART from all the love they gave me in my childhood summers!!!!

The next morning I spent time with my little niece and nephew playing in the pool, giving them all my love, so that this moment of love will be etched into their hearts and fill them with joy many times over as they look back years from now and remember our times together.

Exercise your most important muscle today…. YOUR HEARTt!!! Let your love CREATE MEMORIES for the ones you love in your life…. Your nieces, nephews, children, friends, family…. The love you give today will come back to you again and again as the years go by.

I AM BECOMING....

Ahhh.... the JOY of making changes.. LOL In the beginning of the year, I decided it was time to take my career to new heights, increase my income and make some positive changes in my life. I knew I needed some help in this area and I hired a life coach (David Essel) -- which was one of the BEST decisions in my life this year-- and started what I thought would be a fairly easy journey....

I mean, I’m basically happy with my life, right? I am happy and IN LOVE with a great guy for the last 5 years... I ENJOY training clients and teaching classes and even though I’m not making the money I want, I love what I do for a living.... I am fit and healthy with a better body at over 40 than I had at 20..... I have a loving, supportive family that I enjoy spending time with... So making a few changes to boost my income and take my career to new heights and increase my spirituality, shouldn’t be that hard right?

But wow, was I in for a BIG surprise!!! :) Making changes, even small changes brings up SOOOOOO much resistance.... fears, anxieties, excuses... you name it!!! And yet, I know it is WORTH IT!! Everytime I overcome another fear and get past the resistance even for ONE day-- it is SO worth it!!!!!!!

It's like when you have an amazing workout and then the next day you can hardly walk from the soreness BUT you know that if you keep on working out, recovering, working out, recovering, pushing yourself, resting, consistently over time your body will become STRONGER, LEANER AND INCREDIBLY FIT..... I know by pushing myself MENTALLY, SPIRITUALLY AND EMOTIONALLY, then resting, then pushing again, over time I AM BECOMING a stronger person on the inside.... I know from training clients and myself that excuses are just that ... EXCUSES.

We are all on this journey TOGETHER, all of us with our own set of CHALLENGES and OBSTACLES to overcome.. ASK someone to help you, ENCOURAGE you, MOTIVATE you, PUSH you and APPLAUD you.

In order to SUCCEED in life we have to decide what is it we really want in life and then make the next decision to DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to make it happen, knowing that you will feel sore, tired and like giving up now and then.... doesn’t matter, decide to KEEP ON PUSHING toward whatever it is you want in your life... know that YOU ARE WORTH IT.. know that YOU CAN DO IT... WE CAN do it TOGETHER!!!

What one exercise can help you increase your pleasure in the bedroom, your results in the gym, and your productivity at work?

Exercising total present moment focus… when you exercise total present moment focus it can be one of the most amazing ways to increase your pleasure in the bedroom. If you focus totally on the moment, focusing on the sensations of the moment, on your partner, feeling every touch, every kiss, every breadth, each movement, allowing yourself to be fully present, then making love will be more stimulating, more enjoyable and incredibly intimate.

When we take the exercise of total present moment focus into the gym and instead of just going through the motions of an exercise, if you become highly tuned in to your body, on every repetition, totally focused on the muscle that is working, focused on your breathing, your posture, the feeling of the muscle contracting and releasing, getting into what athletes call “the zone” or “putting your mind into your muscle”, you will see quicker results and also enjoy better progress. I see so many members who come to the gym regularly but never seem to get results and when you watch them do their workout they are just going through the motion, distracted, looking around, swinging weights with momentum instead of using their muscles and then they wonder why are they not seeing the results they would desire. Making this one small change to total present moment focus in their workout can make a huge change in the results they are getting.

At your job, taking the exercise of present moment focus can help you make every minute count. If you start your day with the most difficult or important task and give it your total focus, working steadily and continuously on it without letting your mind get distracted, you will be able to accomplish so much more and once your most difficult task is completed, the rest of your day will be so much easier.

So if you truly want more amazing sex, if you truly want to see changes in your body and if you truly want to be more productive on the job, then try the exercise of total present moment focus and see your whole life change for the better.
